Purpose

The purpose of the group is "to improve the job climate in the health care sector for the people of Aroostook and Washington Counties by increasing the availability and access to well paying, personally satisfying and economically impactive employment".

The Goals of the Group

High School Recruitment

We will embark on a concerted effort to recruit area high school students to careers in the health care sector. Our recruitment efforts would be coordinated with area guidance counselors and programs that are already in place, such as the Survivor Aroostook and Explorer Programs that would concentrate on careers in the health care profession.

Career Ladder Progression

This goal is to create career ladders opportunities for incumbent workers, thereby improving their skills levels and career prospects. This effort will provide the skilled workers needed to fill open positions in the health care field with the assistance of the CareerCenters in our Local Area.

Outmigration and Rural Development

The two counties are working to stem, and potentially reverse, the tide of outmigration talent. By tackling the first two goals, we will make progress in stemming the tide and loss of our most precious resource, our people.

Meeting the Group's Goals

The group will meet it's goals by:
  • providing scolarships to eligible individuals and;
  • creating a self-sustaining program by continually applying for additional grant monies.
Our program base resources are;
  • a $250,000.00 USDOL special appropriations grant,
  • one-to-one matching dollars, both in-kind and in cash, from the participating health care organizations, and,
  • a strong committment from the area's community and industry leaders.
